Ethical Trade Statement

We believe people are at the heart of any business; and when they are treated with respect, work in decent conditions and earn fair rates of pay, both they and their companies benefit from increased commitment, productivity and better-quality material.

Through the Prevented Ocean Plastic™ programme, we promote the principles of the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code, which has been fully integrated into the Prevented Ocean Plastic™ Standards being rolled out across our supply chain in multiple geographies.

Bantam is dedicated to expanding plastic recycling infrastructure and increasing material supply where we work. At the same time as increasing our partners’ capacity, we are committed to elevating their social and environmental practices through application of our standards, and supporting them through third-party auditing.

Together, we are working towards the protection of human rights, starting in our supply chain and beyond. We are committed to addressing the issue of ocean plastic pollution, and believe that sustainable environmental practices and fair labour go hand in hand.

This includes the following practices for workers from the ETI Base Code:

  • Employment is freely chosen without employee deposits.
  • Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are respected.
  • Working conditions are safe and hygienic.
  • Child labour is prohibited.
  • Living wages are paid.
  • Working hours are not excessive.
  • No discrimination is practised.
  • Regular employment is provided.
  • No harsh or inhumane treatment is allowed.

In 2021, Bantam Materials UK Ltd. became the first recycled plastic supplier to join the Ethical Trading Initiative – the leading alliance of companies, trade unions and NGOs that promotes respect for workers’ rights around the globe.
