What’s the difference between ocean bound plastic and ocean plastic?

Prevented Ocean Plastic™ is ocean bound plastic. This is material collected from areas at-risk of ocean plastic pollution. Ocean bound plastic can be collected and recycled.  

Ocean plastic is debris that has already made it to the water. There, the sun and the salt degrade the plastic within a few days, making it largely unusable for recycling. This makes the removal of ocean plastic a clean-up effort, not a recycling effort. 

Is the Prevented Ocean Plastic Programme supported by Good Manufacturing Practices?

Yes. The Prevented Ocean Plastic Programme is underpinned by the industry expert Bantam Materials, providing all required regulatory documentation and good manufacturing practices as required by the industry. 

Is Prevented Ocean Plastic™ compliant with EU Regulations?

Under the guidance of some of the world’s leading experts in food safety (invited expert on food safety at DG Sante), analysis (well authored leading Professor at Zaragoza laboratories) and regulations (Director of PETCORE), all Prevented Ocean Plastic material is complaint with all relevant UK and EU regulations, including; 1935/2004, 10/2011, 1616/2023 and 282/2011 and is suitable for food contact, fibre and pharma.

As per EU Regulations 1935/2004, is traceability available at all stages of the supply chain?

Traceability is one of the strengths of the Prevented Ocean Plastic Programme. The Programme has created a system of traceability including third-party certification. Our supply chain is subject to numerous successful industry audits and spot checks. 

Are Declarations of Compliance available for Prevented Ocean Plastic supply?

Yes. Declarations of Compliance meeting industry standards are available on request. 

Is Prevented Ocean Plastic™ good quality?

The Prevented Ocean Plastic Programme demonstrates that certified, compliant, and high-quality recycled PET plastic can be available to industry requirements. Material quality is based on fully traceable 99% PET bottle inputs, which are machine and hand sorted, processed, and then tested to meet the highest quality levels required for food packaging applications. Other applications include beverage and personal care.
