Last summer, Advansa chose Prevented Ocean Plastic™.

The sustainably-minded fibre supplier started their Prevented Ocean Plastic™ partnership by producing a polyester fibre for sofa cushions made entirely from recycled plastic bottles of which 50% was Prevented Ocean Plastic™.

This spring, Prevented Ocean Plastic™ got cosy with David M. Bayliss, the General Manager of ADVANSA Marketing GmbH.

  • Hi David, please can you talk briefly about the past and the present of Advansa?

“ADVANSA is a leading European fibre specialist with a history of more than 50 years, founded on its heritage of DuPont and recognized for its commitment to offering innovative and environmentally friendly fibres. Our company pursues this goal by leveraging its fibre expertise to constantly improve the ecological quality of its products and processes, giving a positive impact on the people and communities associated with its activities. ADVANSA is well-known for its substantial commitment for research and development, aiming to deliver innovative products made to meet market requirements. The focus is always on the responsible use of resources to develop cutting-edge solutions.”

  • What can you tell us about Advansa’s recent and upcoming products?

“One of ADVANSA´s recent product launches is Remotion®. It is a high-quality and biodegradable fibre designed for apparel textiles with high performance attributes combined with ocean friendly sustainability. This specially engineered polyester is deriving from ocean bound plastic bottles as premium raw material which are verified through Prevented Ocean Plastic™. Another product is our Quallofil® Blue designed for furniture cushions, also made from eco-friendly polyester fibres sourced from coastal bottle collections at risk of ocean plastic pollution.”

  • Sustainability is obviously so important to your business, but how important is Prevented Ocean Plastic™’s material quality for your products?

“As a fibre expert, we recognise that quality is of an uncompromised importance and has a direct impact on the product performance, quality and durability. With our fibres we ensure to meet the quality standards as per consumers’ expectations. Traceability is of similar importance- ensuring that our materials are sourced consciously, meeting our standards in terms of sustainability and ethics, and that no child labour is used for our bottle collection. Through regular audits, we can ensure that any negative impacts associated with our products and processes are minimized. ADVANSA is also certified by Global Recycled Standard (GRS).”

  • What do you think working with Prevented Ocean Plastic™ will mean to your customers?

“Consumers at all levels and ages are concerned about ocean plastic pollution and want to take action. Our choice of Prevented Ocean Plastic™ was driven by our aim to strengthen the future for next generations through our commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. We focus on the use of raw materials and the associated environmental impact throughout the entire value chain. While utilizing Prevented Ocean Plastic™ material ADVANSA contributes to creating a social and environmental impact in coastal regions with high rates of plastic pollution. We are able to raise awareness about how endangered our planet is and how important ocean conservation is. By incorporating Prevented Ocean Plastic™ into our materials, we can offer our customers an eco-friendlier alternative without compromising on quality, which is important as today´s consumers are more and more inclined to choose eco-friendly products

  • Would you encourage other companies to work with Prevented Ocean Plastic?

“For sure. Being part of the Prevented Ocean Plastic™ Programme means making a positive impact on the environment and contributing to keeping our oceans free from plastic pollution. It gives the opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint by minimizing our dependence on virgin raw materials and maximizing the use of recycled material.

We are aware that no single company can tackle these global challenges on its own. Only through collective efforts and partnerships across the entire value chain can we enhance a more sustainable future. We are eager to contribute to this collective action and be part of the solution by redesigning our products offering more sustainable alternatives and taking actions for a positive impact.”

  • And finally, what are your ambitions for Advansa’s future?
