Prevented Ocean Plastic support bottle swap event in Jakarta

By February 13, 2025No Comments

Prevented Ocean Plastic was proud to support a ‘Swap Your Bottle’ event in Jakarta this week.

The Prevented Ocean Plastic Southeast Asia team took to the streets to promote the programme’s work, and our values regarding sustainability and waste management, as well as encourage sustainable behaviour, and inspire people to recycle.

During Car Free Day in CFD Bundaran HI, the POPSEA team set up swap stations where participants exchanged plastic bottles for exciting rewards. For three bottles, people could receive a sustainable alternative such as a bamboo straw set or reusable shopping bag.

While community engagement was a key focus, the POPSEA team also invited the site manager of our North Jakarta collection centre to attend the event to help raise awareness about our efforts and communicate the true scale of Prevented Ocean Plastic collection. In the words of the POPSEA team, “By offering practical solutions and promoting awareness, we’re empowering communities to embrace practical steps. Every bottle recycled is a step closer to reducing plastic pollution and protecting our environment.”

Since June 2022, POPSEA has successfully collected over 16,000 metric tons of plastic waste from the environment, and all of the collected bottles from the event are now being processed for recycling at the site.

Also on the day, one of our partner brands, Danone’s Aqua, provided water refills throughout the event, keeping everyone hydrated while supporting eco-friendly practices. And Modena supported with dispensers to make water refills even easier.

As the POPSEA team concluded, “Together, let’s continue to lead the way in sustainability and inspire more action for a cleaner Indonesia!”
