Prevented Ocean Plastic at the Houses of Parliament

Last week, members of the Prevented Ocean Plastic™ team travelled to the Houses of Parliament to attend the Green Apple Awards

Inside Westminster, Bantam Materials UK Ltd, the supplier of Prevented Ocean Plastic™, was presented with a Green World Award for commitment to environmental best practice, and Green World Ambassador status. The latter means a profile of Prevented Ocean Plastic™ and our progress will be published in the Green Book, an annual global work of reference on environmental best practice.

The Green Apple Awards are run by The Green Organisation – an international, independent, non-profit, non-political environment group formed in 1994 to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world. Prevented Ocean Plastic™ competed against more than 800 other international nominations for the Awards.

The judges said of our initiative, “Bantam Materials UK Ltd revolutionises plastic recycling with their Prevented Ocean Plastic™ programme. Over a billion bottles saved,  jobs created, and income generated in developing countries. High-quality, traceable, and eco-friendly, they promote a sustainable circular economy. Choosing recycled plastic reduces CO2 emissions and supports climate goals.“

Prevented Ocean Plastic™ founder Raffi Schieir said, “We are so proud of this latest recognition of our recycled raw material supply programme. Thanks go to all of our manufacturing and brand partners supporting a just transition to better plastic collection infrastructure and jobs with dignity for a cleaner natural environment. Thank you for offering your customers a better plastic choice and continuing to make Prevented Ocean Plastic™ a success.”

Also this month, Prevented Ocean Plastic™ received a Global Recognition Award. Comments from the judging panel included, “In an era of critical environmental challenges, Prevented Ocean Plastic™, a UK-based innovator, has emerged as a frontrunner in the battle against ocean plastic pollution. This commendable effort has earned them a 2023 Global Recognition Award. Since its inception in 2019, the company has been unwavering in its mission to mitigate one of the most pressing environmental crises of our time.”

These awards round off another excellent year of recognition for Prevented Ocean Plastic™. Our progress was also recently recognised via an Earthshot nomination, acknowledgement from the British Plastics Federation, and other awards.

Prevented Ocean Plastic™ is high quality, certified recycled plastic that has been collected from coastal areas at risk of ocean plastic pollution. Used by supermarkets and brands around the world, it meets regulatory health and safety standards, is traceable back to source and can be identified on-pack through its distinctive triangular logo. Prevented Ocean Plastic™ is an official nominee for the 2023 Earthshot Prize, and counts Lidl, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Booths Supermarket as key partners, along with major manufacturing partners such as Groupe Guillin, Spectra Packaging, and Berry Global for offerings across multiple product categories, including fish, poultry, soft fruits, pet food, personal care, and home cleaning.
